Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) can support skill development related to acceptance, mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. Developed by Marsha Linehan for those with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT skills are effective for folks with a broad range of concerns. I find that DBT skills can help most humans in many different areas of life.
DBT traditionally involves a combination of intensive group sessions, individual sessions, and coaching during crisis situations. I cannot offer the level of DBT that would be delivered by a DBT program or DBT therapist. What I can do is help you learn, practice and integrate DBT skills that are relevant to your concerns. I typically integrate DBT skills into sessions when people are having difficulties in regulating emotions, are having interpersonal difficulties, or are having strong impulses and urges towards behaviours they perceive as harmful.
